Dr. V. K. Gokak Library at Karnatak College, Dharwad

A well-equipped and well-managed library is the foundation of modern educational structure. The importance of library in education can be appreciated properly and precisely only if we try to understand the changing concepts of education. Today, education bereft of library service is like a body without soul. Education and library service are twin sisters and one cannot live apart from the other. The Karnatak College library has been catering to this thirst for knowledge to the users of Karnatak College since its inception. In the beginning, the library was housed in the main Arts College building. Later, in 1977, the library was shifted to its present abode. The College library was known as the Central Library till 1991.

It was renamed as “Dr. V.K. Gokak Library” on 1st January 1992, in the very presence of late Dr. V.K. Gokak, who was an eminent Principal of this college and a Jnanapeeth awardee; the library is a fitting tribute to his memory, as the esteemed Karnatak College, Dharwad reached its highest glory during his tenure as the College Principal. The College library also has its own departmental libraries, located in different departmental buildings spread over the college campus.
